DECT Wireless Headsets - Top Of The Line
Like with any technology wireless headsets have come a long way from their analogue ancestors of the past. As you can tell from just looking and listening around, technological advancements are a daily occurrence and one of the advancements relating to wireless headsets is known as DECT. Basically, wireless headsets require some sort of wireless technology for the wireless headsets to be able to communicate with there phones/base systems. In the past the wireless technology used for these wireless headsets was known as analogue, but over the years a need for a larger range, higher security technology has developed for wireless headsets and to satisfy that need DECT was introduced to wireless headsets. DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Technology and is currently the one of the most widely used technologies used with wireless headsets.
Plantronics was one of the first companies to include DECT technology in their headsets.
With any new technology some questions will arise, and wireless headsets technology is no different. Some questions many people will have about these wireless headsets will relate to size, weight, range, call quality, security, and of course cost. These are the main areas of interest when it comes to wireless headsets so these are the points that will be discussed.
Size – This used to be an issue with wireless headsets as many were very large and bulky but these days wireless headsets are all quite compact.
Weight – This was also an old concern about wireless headsets, but in some cases, large call centers will still worry about this because even a little reduction in weight of wireless headsets can contribute to a better work environment for these scenarios. For the most part, with DECT wireless headsets they will all be around the same weight unless you want a superior wireless headset with a much higher price tag.
Range – This is where DECT starts to stand out in wireless headsets. The range of DECT wireless headsets can go up to 100 meters in an outdoor environment. This is a huge range for wireless headsets, and not something you wuld see with Bluetooth wireless headsets.
Call Quality – The quality of DECT wireless headsets is absolutely remarkable when compared with other technologies. Wireless headsets using this technology stand to receive call quality comparable to that of a landline phone, which was not something you could expect from older wireless headsets such as analogue.
Security – The security features of DECT are also an aspect that is a great improvement on other wireless headsets technologies. The way DECT wireless headsets work is that they connect to the base/receiver on a specific channel. At random intervals the wireless headsets and base will “channel-hop” making it impossible for a person on the outside to figure out the channel and listen in on it. This compared to analogue wireless headsets security is amazing considering analogue only required you to have a radio to eavesdrop on a wireless headsets conversation.
Cost – Cost of DECT wireless headsets is the highest of the different wireless headsets technologies out there but for good reason. Bluetooth wireless headsets are much cheaper but do not provide the same range, quality, or security, and analogue wireless headsets do not provide the security, or call quality, and are also cheaper. Basically if you need reliable wireless headsets at a range greater then 5 feet, DECT wireless headsets are the way to go.
Jabra wireless headsets offer a full range of DECT headsets.
